EO Update, 22 April 25

Message from Executive Office

In an exciting milestone, the Great Barrier Reef has been nominated for the United Nations Environment Programme’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

This nomination highlights the importance of protecting and promoting the Reef’s unparalleled natural and cultural value. You can get behind the Lifetime of Greatness initiative by sharing this extraordinary achievement within your networks. Explore more details below and discover how you can get involved to support this remarkable achievement.

Preparations are well underway for the Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE), Australia’s largest tourism trade event. ATE provides a key platform to showcase our destination to international travel buyers and media. This year, we will highlight Port Douglas and the Daintree’s eco-certified experiences and promote travel during the shoulder season. We look forward to representing our members and strengthening trade relationships to drive international visitation.

In addition to attending ATE, we are hosting a series of famil activities aimed at building stronger tourism trade partnerships and increasing destination awareness. A particular highlight is the Chinese Inbound Famil, organised by TTNQ, which will connect us with key Chinese inbound tour operators. We encourage members to register early to ensure participation in this important initiative.

We are also pleased to feature the recent Fiji Airways announcement in this month’s newsletter. Their updated flight schedules provide improved connectivity to North America, an important market for our region. This development presents a significant opportunity to attract high-value visitors from this key audience.

Looking ahead, the Today Show’s weather cross from our region has been rescheduled to May 8 and 9, offering a fantastic opportunity to showcase the beauty of Port Douglas and the Daintree to a national audience.

We are also delighted to share that TPDD has secured the Export Market Development Grant from Austrade. This funding will enable us to participate in key international trade shows, further supporting our efforts to promote the region on a global scale.

As we approach May, we encourage members to submit Carnivale deal activities for promotion through our social channels. These offers are vital in generating excitement and attracting visitors to this vibrant celebration of our region.

Finally, forward bookings for June are looking strong, providing a positive outlook as we head into the winter months.

Thank you for your continued efforts in showcasing the best of Port Douglas and the Daintree. Together, we are building a strong and sustainable future for our destination.

Emma
