Port Douglas Gran Fondo 14

EO Update

What an incredible Port Douglas Gran Fondo with around 1000 riders taking part over the weekend. Bringing millions in economic value, we’re thrilled to see the event secure further funding support from Douglas Shire Council for the next three years.

I attended TEQ’s Blueprint Update in Brisbane last week which celebrated TEQ’s progress towards increasing Queensland’s overnight visitor expenditure to $44 billion by 2032. With the theme of big and bold, I look forward to aligning Port Douglas Daintree’s destination marketing plan with TEQ’s vision.

Whilst in Brisbane I met with program leaders across all departments at TEQ, having important discussions about specific support required for Port Douglas Daintree. In a separate meeting with QTIC, I discussed important advocacy issues and investment required in the Daintree and Port Douglas across infrastructure and marketing.

With the support of Minister Healy and Douglas Shire Council, I am working on securing an industry update on the region’s preparedness for the coming wet season. More details will come shortly.

I have also been working with AEC Group on a strategically important value of tourism piece, that will allow us to demonstrate the value of the tourism industry to Douglas for important funding and advocacy discussions.

In other exciting news TTNQ launched a world first campaign, Guardian of the Reef, on Friday. Partnering with Expedia® in the USA, UK and Australia, the platform promotes reef-positive travel choices that reward travellers for learning about the Great Barrier Reef.

I’m thrilled to welcome our new Marketing and Partnership Executive, Michela Scacchi who started with us last week. Michela joins us from the Pullman Port Douglas Sea Temple Resort and Spa and has a wealth of industry knowledge and experience. I’m delighted that Michela will bring her business events experience to represent TPDD and the region at Australia Next in Cairns this week.

Finally, I hope to see you at the TPDD networking event this Thursday evening at Wildlife Habitat. Don’t forget to register and enter the draw to win a swim with the Salties on the night – pack your swimmers in case you win!

Wishing you a great week ahead,

Emma
